The loose gang of fugitives that make up the "Young Guns" are in a relatively relaxed mood before "Buckshot" arrives. And with good reason, as up until this point they have been relatively unscathed from their war with the Murphy clan. Perhaps they are starting to believe their own hype - Billy the Kid certainly is anyway...

They have, however heard of "Buckshot", and we're told "he's killed more people than smallpox!"
So, when the old timer moseys into their camp they do treat him with suitable respect and go out fully armed.

Buckshot isn't the most impressive of bounty hunters. He is the living embodiment of the word "grizzled", and looks as if he's been "prospectin'" for the better part of half a century.
He also seems completely oblivious to the fact that he's facing a bunch of armed killers, and for a moment it seems he isn't there on account of the feud at all:

"I ain't got no business with that war no more, peckerhead son of a bitch. I'm on my own. I've come to pick up the 150 dollars Sheriff Brady has put out for the kid. The rest of you are only worth about 110, but I'll take it. What a sweet disposition. All right, let's dance."

Having revealed his motives are purely cash oriented, Roberts drops to his knee and starts blasting with his trademark shotgun.

Our young heroes shoot back but this sheer display of bravado rattles them and they are soon in full retreat. Doc and Chavez both take nasty wounds and Roberts just keeps on shooting, forcing a stand off.
Roberts then retreats to the outhouse (ie: the toilet), and everyone blasts it to pieces, but have they killed the old man?

Nobody is too keen to go and investigate, but Dick knows that Billy is a complete psychopath and dares him to go and look. Billy can't refuse this so clutches his pistols and heads towards the outhouse... ...only to fall back under a blaze of fire. Everyone shoots back and they're back in the same situation. Dick looks at Billy again but it is clear that psychopath or not, Billy is no longer up for "dancing" with old Buckshot, so Dick sets his jaw square and tells everyone to "cover him".

They don't really get much of a chance though, as this time Buckshot waits until he has a clean shot and shoots Dick in the chest several times with a revolver poked through a gap in the outhouse wall.

Stunned by the loss of their leader, the "Regulators" shoot up the outhouse some more, and then skedaddle.
It is somewhat unclear if Roberts dies outright in this scene, but the implication is that he does. Also, the real life Buckshot did die slowly as a result of his wounds (a shot to the gut) in this incident.
