Briggs was the captain of the infamous ship, the Mary Celeste. He, his daughter Delphine and his entire crew was kidnapped by a giant octopus and ended up becoming the slaves of the Atlanteans, rulers of the fabled city of Atlantis, which is under the sea.

It seems this city is the jewel in the crown of the ocean and as such, it is frequently attacked by a wide range of creatures. The Atlanteans are so lazy, they don't even use their own guards to defend their city from the endless monster attacks. Instead, they rely on their unenthusiastic slaves manning cannons and using spears against the mutant beasts..

During one such attack by two Zaargs - giant, armoured creatures resembling turtles - Briggs commands the slaves to man the cannons. He is the only casualty of the Zaarg attack, as when one of the monsters manages to scale the wall of the city, it paws at him. Somehow, from being pawed, Briggs ends up in the Zaarg's mouth and he is munched, much to Delphine's horror.
