"Bowtie" Driver is one of Al Capone's men, so nicknamed because of his penchant for wearing bowties. Next to Frank Nitti (q.v.) he is one of Capone's most ruthless men, and even assisted Nitti in the murder of Jim Malone (q.v.).

Following the hit on Malone, Bowtie is supposed to get Walter Payne, Capone's accountant, out of Chicago so he cannot testify against Capone in court. But the revelations from Malone mean that Ness and Stone are waiting for them at the train station and an epic gunfight erupts on the train station staircase, all shot rather stylishly in slow motion.

Bowtie survives despite two shots to the shoulder and as a last gambit, he grabs Payne and threatens to kill the bookkeeper unless Ness and Stone lets the pair of them go. The bookkeeper is not used to such excitement and he has cacked his pants and is promising Ness he will tell him whatever he wants if Ness will rescue him from this nutter.

A slight impasse ensues, as Ness weighs up the options (or to be more cynical about it, to increase dramatic tension). With noone making a move, Bowtie ups the stakes, giving Ness to the count of three to release them.

Stone positions himself into a cool action pose, while Bowtie regrets not using a more reliable deodorant

Ness asks Stone, "You got 'im?" Stone replies, "Yeah, I got 'im." Poor Bowtie doesn't make it past one before Stone shoots him right in the head, and with blood pouring out of his mouth Bowtie falls down dead. Stone then quips, "Two!"

Bowtie pays the ultimate price for not remembering what number comes after one.....

The grabs seem to be in the incorrect ratio...

Yes, they are too narrow.
(Mouse is notoriously bad at judging aspect ratios - his TV is permanently in "superstretchy" mode, which would drive me mad - I can't even watch The Simpsons in the wrong aspect, let alone live actors :X)

Even when he watches DVDs? If so, his TV's set-up wrong.

I admit i am bad at gauging aspect ratios, as that does not look too bad to me at all. However, the grabs were submitted to us...

I believe The Untouchables is a film in 2.35:1. So it should be really wide, but short in height.
Comment 6 by 'Kooshmeister' (reply to this comment)
I submitted these as well as Oscar's, and I don't remember them being that stretched. Then again I did use my grandfather's computer and DVD to make them.

But you don't need to worry about that - you just need to look at the squishy heads! :guilty:

Here's an interesting question, and one I'm amazed I didn't put forth writing the death... where, exactly, is Bowtie hit when Stone shoots him? I know I put it under Head Shot, but rewatching the film recently made me notice the complete lack of an entrance wound anywhere on Bowtie's body. He just snaps backwards as if hit, and blood pours out of his mouth.

The only thing I can think of, is right before Stone shoots him, Bowtie opens his mouth to yell "two," and I think the bullet goes into his mouth, which he then abruptly closes in reflex. What do you guys think?

I thought his being shot in the mouth was obvious when I first saw this movie, and was very surprised that it wasn't mentioned in the original description.

Well it's true I do some writeups based on memory rather than having the movie playing right in front of me. Someday I'll have revise this one to say the bullet goes into his mouth.
