Kraven, who had narrowly escaped death at Viktor or Selene's hands at the end of the previous movie and is no longer in league with Lucian in his attempt to usurp the Coven from the Elders, is aware Selene is on her way over and would expose his treachery to Marcus, the remaining Elder, if he does not get there first and leave her with no one to expose the truth to.

Fortune smiles on the ambitious vampire as he arrives at Ordoghaz long before Selene and rallies his other thugs to prepare to assassinate the Elder while he is still in hibernation. Entering the tomb in the basement of the mansion, Kraven and his thugs activate Marcus's coffin and watch it emerge from the ground, only to discover much to their surprise that it is empty!

Kraven notices a little too late the deceased lycan scientist Dr. Singe laying nearby, his blood spilt from a fatal wound caused by Viktor in the previous movie having drained into Marcus's coffin. Then the ground begins to shake...

Marcus, being a direct descendant of Corvinus, the first immortal, can also become a hybrid of vampire and lycan if exposed to both curses. However, due to having been a vampire when exposed to the other curse rather than human (as Michael had been), his vampiric side is much more dominant, and he bursts from the ground of the tomb in the form of a tall, demonic batlike creature with huge, razor-sharp wings. Marcus demonstrates his tremendous new power by quickly dispatching Kraven's men, and the vampire regent is growing all too aware that these are to be the last seconds of his life.

Having been resurrected by the blood of Dr. Singe, who worked with Lucian and therefore had been aware of Kraven's plans for the coven and his secret alliance with Lucian, Marcus has Kraven next on his hit list, a point he makes clear when he suddenly impales his sharp wing tips into Kraven's shoulder, pinning him against the wall. Marcus, however, has a far more important agenda in his mind, and bites Kraven's neck, draining him dry.

A vampire elder carries the ability to read someone's memories when they feed off someone, and Marcus immediately gains access to the events that had occurred recently; including Selene killing Viktor, and most importantly, taking the pendant Lucian had worn, which will be important to his ultimate agenda.

Satisfied, Marcus prepares to dispatch the traitor. Kraven, now a drained, dried husk, begs for mercy. "I can still help you..." He utters, barely alive.

"You already have." Marcus responds in amusement, then slashing his wingtips through Kraven's shoulder and through his head, slicing it apart in a bloody mess and giving Kraven a long-awaited comeuppance that is nothing short of appropriate and satisfying.
