Lucian, the lycan leader, and Kraven, a high-ranking member of the vampire coven who got his position through a deceptive plan he had concocted with the former, intend to overthrow the coven of elders, primarily Viktor, for their own personal reasons. Lucian wants revenge due to Viktor having murdered Lucian's vampire bride (who was also Viktor's daughter, whom he had killed to prevent the potential birth of a hybrid of the species). Kraven, meanwhile, intends to rule the vampire coven himself.

Their plan to create a hybrid to destroy Viktor goes south very quickly when the vampire Elder, along with Selene and an army of vampire warriors, invades Lucian's hideout. Kraven is anxious to escape to avoid getting caught, but Lucian replies that they will have to risk their lives if he wants his plan to work.

Kraven, however, has no interest in putting his “unlife” on the line and betrays his long-time ally, shooting him with capsule bullets filled with silver nitrate, which is toxic to werewolves, especially when introduced to their bloodstream. Satisfied, Kraven departs to look for a way out. Lucian, however, did not become the leader of the werewolves without being extremely tough. Powerful enough now to change at will and withstand silver better than most of his kind. He regains consciousness, but is still weakened from the poisonous rounds.

Selene reunites with Michael and Kraven returns, discovering the two together. He is overcome with rage and fires several rounds into Michael, leaving him to die and demanding Selene come with him. Lucian surprises Kraven by impaling him through the leg with his wrist-mounted sword. The lycan leader then tells Selene to bite Michael, whose blood holds the dormant ability to make him a hybrid (and thus save his life). Selene proceeds to do just that.

"You may have killed me, cousin..." Lucian says triumphantly at Kraven, knowing Viktor would finally pay and his revenge would complete itself very soon. "But my will is done regardless." The vampire, in rage at being outfoxed by a lycan, responds by shooting him several more times, finally killing him.
