Cohaagen's objective is simple: kill Quaid and blow up the alien device (although why it was not blown up months earlier is an inconsistency not dealt with in this film). Just as he is about to do this, Melina appears on a lift and shoots Cohaagen in the arm and upper chest region.
As he falls over, the detonator falls from Cohaagen's grasp and he frantically makes a reach for it. Quaid tries to stop him, but is too slow, and the bomb timer starts. The timer mechanism allows just enough time for it to be grabbed by Quaid and thrown down an exhaust vent before it detonates. Upon detonation, all three protagonists make a grab for something to prevent being blasted out onto Mars' surface by the backdraft.

Cohaagen, mortally wounded, still has time to think of his company's shareholders and trigger the detonation
Quaid and Cohaagen are grappling with each other, Quaid trying to reach the alien device; Cohaagen trying to stop him. Eventually, Quaid manages to free himself of Cohaagen and throws him towards the exhaust vent.

Cohaagen does his impression of Superman
After rolling down a Martian mountain, Cohaagen begins struggling for air and in his death throes, his eyes and tongue pop out of his head.

Someone shows Cohaagen a picture of Margaret Thatcher in a bikini
That is the dumbest most ridiculously unrealistic thing I have ever seen in a live action movie!
Heh, could that actually happen?
Shouldn't "Radiation" be on the category list on this death?
Why...?
