Angelo Palazzi, through a series of plastic surgery alterations, is the doppelganger of NATO pilot Francois Derval. He is key to SPECTRE's plan to steal a couple of nuclear bombs and hold the world to ransom.

Knowing he is in a good bargaining position is not lost on Angelo who, having just dispatched Francois, demands more money to carry out the plan. Fiona Volpe (q.v.) reluctantly agrees, and Angelo successfully steals the bombs by killing the crew of the Vulcan (plane) and landing it in the sea.

Whilst underwater, Angelo's seatbelt gets jammed and so he is trapped in the cockpit. Fortunately he is still wearing his breathing apparatus, but when Largo comes to free him, instead of cutting the belt free, his cuts his air line to his mask. Angelo briefly struggles with his seat belt in desperation, but it is to no avail, and he drowns.

why did Angelo Palazzi become the identical twin of Francois Derval?

wouldn't this sort of count as "execution"?

So he could take over his day job as pilot of the plane which carried the bombs that Largo wanted!

that all hinges on 1 thing.one victom of Largo's gets gassed in the head, another drowns to death in the waters of the Bahamas, and another becomes Largo's sharks main entree for lunch they didn't survive.

Would it?

Well, the rules for execution say the killer believes they're somehow authorized to execute the person. Largo knows he's murdering Angelo: He doesn't think it's right, he just doesn't want to pay him.
