Dr. Bondurant, who is young Stephanie Maine's therapist, meets up with her estate agent stepfather Jerry Blake in an empty home he is selling. He is the only adult who believes the young girl's story - that her new stepfather is a notorious serial killer.

Foolishly, once alone in the house with Jerry, who is unaware Bondurant is a therapist and thinks he's talking to a customer, the brilliant doctor broaches the subject of Mr. Blake's temper. Mr. Blake listens respectfully, while quietly fishing a log from the fireplace behind him.

Mr Blake has a HUGE secret, and this "customer" seems to know of it – his course of action is clear. Suddenly Mr. Blake slams the log against the good doctor's head, stunning him and probably killing him with the first blow, before savagely beating him to death with the log in one of the more disturbing scenes of the movie.
