Admiral Ozzel, the commander of the Imperial fleet under Sith Lord Darth Vader, makes a small calculation error bringing the fleet out of hyperspace too close to the system the rebels are hiding on. This inadvertently alerts the Rebels of the Imperial presence. When Vader demands an explanation, General Veers tells him that, "He [Ozzel] felt surprise was wiser." Vader is having none of this though and tells Veers that Ozzel "is as clumsy as he is stupid", before turning and activating a view screen, which connects him with the bridge.
Admiral Ozzel appears onscreen with his subordinate, Captain Piett. Ozzel, completely oblivious to the monumental blunder he has just made, and begins updating Vader, only to be cut off by a strange tightness gripping his throat. Aficionados of the films will realise this is Vader’s patented strangulation using the force technique.
"You have failed me for the last time, Admiral," Vader tells him as Ozzel chokes, staggering backwards as his windpipe is slowly crushed with the power of the Dark Side. Ozzel does manage to live long enough to hear Vader promoting Captain Piett into his position before he finally collapses to the floor with a loud gasp, dead.
from my theory, ozzel was a clumsy,stupid-headed,idoitic, big-fat jerk-head fool who deserved to die. because I hated him so much!
Ohh, he has feelings too you know...
what i mean is, to me, He's the Worst background character in star wars history, probably worse than that sucker jar-jar binks!
How are he and Jar Jar background characters? Background characters haven't got lines or a role in the story. I think what you're looking for is supporting character. Ozzel and Jar Jar are supporting characters. Yeesh.
Sorry, I was confused, since I don't like Ozzel, I'm making of Coolest and Lamest "Star Wars" characters, and I'M Putting Ozzel on the Lame list.
He's supposed to be stupid, and we're supposed to dislike him. That's the entire point of his character. Your feelings towards him are what the scriptwriter wanted to elicit in the viewer. With that in mind, Ozzel does everything he's supposed to do as a character, so how is he "lame?"
A character really only becomes lame (in my opinion) if they fail at eliciting the audience response the writer wanted. For example, Jar Jar. He's clearly intended to be funny and lovable, but most people hated him, thereby making him, as a character, a failure.
Anyway, regardless of whether or not we're meant to dislike him, the sheer amount of hatred felt towards Ozzel by a lot of people bothers me. For a guy with only two brief scenes and little impact on the plot, Ozzel sure doesn't deserve to be on a lamest characters list.

Well, I like Ozzel, if only because he's an Imperial and therefore cool by default. Not as cool as, say, Tarkin or Piett or Veers, but definitely better than that snot-nosed creep Motti.
EDIT: And for the benefit of casual Star Wars fans, Admiral Motti is the fellow who didn't believe in the Force in A New Hope and subsequently shown it existed by getting telekinetically strangled (although he survived).
Oh, and speaking of Ozzel and Force-choking, check out his action figure:
"I think something went down the wrong tube... ack..."
