After a busy night dispatching a family, the Headless Horseman is ready to call it a night and head back into the woods. Brom, the town bully and local tough guy, has other ideas though. Not about to let the Horseman get away, Brom fires a musket at the Horseman, knocking him off his horse. Ichabod arrives at this moment and sees the horseman get back up, unharmed by the gunshot.
A musket is not the most practical weapon to use in this scenario, as while he is spending time reloading, the Horseman attacks Brom and he is forced to use the musket to block the Horseman's axes. The Horseman easily overpowers Brom and begins to leave, showing the audience that he is not interested in killing him.
Brom is too brash for his own good though, and he tosses a knife into the Hessian's back. The Horseman responds by throwing it back at him with unerring accuracy and the knife embeds itself in Brom's leg. Ichabod tries to tend to him, and at this point the two attempt to flee. This is closing the stable door after the horse has bolted however, as the Horseman heads them off. Ichabod and Brom, now armed with scythes, resume the attack, but the Horseman manages to stab Ichabod, and put him out of the fight.
Brom has, by this point realised that he should not have got himself involved in a fight he couldn't win. His mistake is compounded when the Horseman embeds his two axes into Brom's stomach, and pulls them apart, cleaving him in twain.
Good review of his death. He's an idiot for battling a ghost and he got it worse than just decapitation, he friggin gets cleaved in two on the bridge.
Awesome death, although it will be even awesomer if we could have seen more of the death and corpse.
Almost ironic Van Brunt dies almost the same way Park's other character did
"...as while he is spending time reloading, the Horseman attacks Brom and he is forced to use the musket to block the Horseman's axes"
Doesn't Brom attack first? Because he shoots, tries to reload, while the horseman walks past, then Brom attempts to hit the horseman but the horseman blocks him using the axes then slaps Brom across the face and walks off?
I swear thats what happened in the movie.
if it isn't I'm sorry for intervening.
