Jack Torrance gets the job as a caretaker of a remote mountain hotel during the off season. Shortly after beginning the long winter, the family is snowed in, and to their horror, Jack is driven insane by the spirits that live within the hotel.

To be fair, the family are given ample clues that the house is riddled with vengeful spirits, so they really only have themeselves to blame when Jack tries to kill his family.

His psychotic rampage culminates in him chasing his son into the hotel's hedge maze. Jack's son, Danny, is a wily child and he backtracks on his own steps to mislead his father, before hiding along the side of the maze among the hedges. Jack falls into the trap and gets lost in the maze, allowing Danny, to make his escape.

We then cut to the next day, where we see that Jack never made it out of the maze and he has frozen to death, covered in ice and snow.

Wouldn't family count as a category?

It already is one, but it needs to be added here.
