While stuck in traffic, Cotton receives a phone call from a female fan. After a bit of flirting, it turns out that this is in fact another killer, who is standing outside his girlfriend's bathroom door while she is inside showering.
Cotton, in a panic, shoots off to his girlfriend's apartment only to find her locked in the bedroom. She waves a golf club at him threateningly, believing him to be the madman who was trying to kill her. His murky past does him no favours at this point as, when he sees the killer approaching from behind his girlfriend, he makes a move to protect her, but she misreads his intentions and smacks him in the face with the club.
Cotton can only watch dazed as the killer stabs his girlfriend and then moves towards him. By this point though he has managed to get to his feet and the pair has a scuffle in the bedroom which results in Cotton toppling a bookcase on the killer. This does not stop the killer from throwing Cotton to the floor again, and quickly getting up, the killer stands over Cotton and stabs him hard in the chest. Cotton coughs up a bit of blood before the killer stabs him again, ending his life.
By the third film, this sort of fight and death scenes had become so clichéd, that I have scored it accordingly.
This was a good movie. However They should made cottons death a little more brutal. They really needed needed to make all the deaths a little more graphic.
I suppose by the third film though they were running out of ideas on how to kill people in original ways.
Craven made a modern masterpiece with the initial Scream film, and pumped energy back into the teen horror genre (which later spawned "I know what you did Last Summer"), but then fell back to his usual ways, and persisted with a concept that had lost its originality (a la Nightmare on Elm Street).

I agree. 3 was more of a comedy than a horror movie, although it was slightly better than 2.
I think they should make Scream 4, where the killer is revealed to be Sydney at the end. That would rock.
