Insane teen Loomis tries to kill his girlfriend and leave the blame for the murder at the feet of her father. The intricate plot means that Loomis and sidekick Stu [Stuart Machter] (q.v.) have to stab each other in order to make their alibi realistic.

During the course of this stabbing, which each of them inflicts on the other with a bit too much enthusiasm, Sydney escapes and is hiding around the house.
Loomis hunts her down and manages to grab her in the hall (I have never heard it called that before - ed.). Struggling on the ground, Sydney manages to release herself from his grip by inserting her finger into one of Loomis' stab wounds, which makes him recoil in agony. Raising his knife above his head, Loomis starts to stab Sydney when the front door bursts open and Loomis is shot by TV anchor girl, Gail Weathers.

Sydney then takes the gun from Gail, walks over to his body, and the audience is treated to one final fright, as the corpse's eyes flick open and Loomis lunges forward suddenly.

Sydney finally ends Loomis' life with a conclusive head shot; thereby ensuring he would not be around for any of the sequels - although since when has that stopped Wes Craven.....

The stab wound Sydney jabs her finger into was inflicted by her earlier when she escaped while Billy and Stu were too distracted stabbing one-another.
She escaped with the voice synthesizer(which Billy and Stu used to disguise their voices when they'd call their victems) and calls them on Billy's cellphone, resulting in him going to look for her, she then jumps out of the broom closet in Billy's (or Stu's?) "killer" costume and stabs him with an umbrella tip.
Lover for sure.
