In a Post-Apocalyptic future, which does not look too dissimilar to the more trashy areas of Los Angeles, Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger) has been sent to what can only be described as an open prison.

However, this futuristic regime is not soft on crime, as each of the convicts has a rather nasty collar packed full of explosives wrapped around their necks. Should anyone pass through the perimeter zone of the prison while the zone is active they have precisely 3 seconds before the collar detonates, blowing their head off. This is verbally explained to Richards, and the audience, by one of the prisoners, but this was not the sort of stunt the scriptwriters were going to allow to pass without a graphic demonstration.

Cue a prison breakout. The prisoners all work together to free themselves, but to do this they need to get control of the suitcase one of the guards has which can deactivate the perimeter. They manage to do this, and it is given to Weiss, the nerdy computer geek character, to deactivate the zone.

However, those pesky prison guards are pretty clever, and a guard on the other side of the perimeter tries to jam Weiss's attempts to lower the sheilds. When it looks like Weiss is winning, the guard tries another tactic, he makes it appear that the sheilds have been lowered, which makes a loud declaration to all the prisoners "perimeter shields deactivated".

Needless to say, Weiss realises this is a trick, but Chico, a fellow prisoner, can't resist the sweet smell of freedom any longer and so he gets up and makes a run for it. Everyone tries to warn him that it is not safe, but Chico is not listening and he crosses the perimeter. This sets off the trigger, and a few steps later, his collar explodes, along with his head.

Not really Unique, since explosive collars have been done also in Battle Royale and The Condemned.

Suggest merging this actor with Thomas Rosales Jr., who plays The Lost World's Carter, or vice versa, since it's the same actor.

I think Richards is misspelled as just "Richard" the first time, and Weiss should be a "(q.v.)" for future reference. I also second taking off "Unique".
Comment 4 by 'old bluffer' (reply to this comment)
Removed "Unique" - also, why is this "Tempting Fate"?
Comment 5 by 'Kooshmeister' (reply to this comment)
Because he knows about the exploding collar and yet makes a run for it anyway, if I remember correctly.
Comment 6 by 'Bill' (reply to this comment)
Actually, he just didn't hear him calling him back, but yet, temping fate should still stay.
Comment 7 by 'Mr Mouseburger' (reply to this comment)
THere is no way this is tempting fate i am taking it off. Tempting fate is where the character makes a call about their future, thereby condemning themselves to death, as the scriptwriter wants to increase pathos!

Chico was just a numpty! Technically, every death could be considered tempting fate, if this one was allowed to stand.

Well, to me, the "Tempting Fate" category was always deaths as a result of sheer stupidity. Like Whitey in Darkman II; he fooled around with the plutonium cel even after Hathaway told him not to, thus inviting an accident. If "Tempting Fate" is not to be a category for "death by stupidity," then we need a category for that.
