As the gang of robbers is hunting down Robocop in the abandoned industrial complex, Emil spots our hero wandering around near a vat of toxic waste. Emil decides to ram the van he is driving in to Robocop. Robocop shoots at Emil, who momentarily ducks under the dashboard.

It really isn't wise to drive at full speed towards a vat that says 'toxic waste'
As we all know, this is a "Highway Code" no-no.While Emil's eyes are off the road, Robocop has time to run out of the way, leaving the van to crash into the vat of toxic waste. The van is completely flooded by the waste and Emil is bathed in the stuff. What ever type of toxic waste this is, it appears to be very bad for the skin, which literally melts off of Emil. Staggering around aimlessly and in agony, he wanders into the path of Boddicker's (q.v.) car which is unable to swerve in time, and we see Emil explode over the car windscreen.

Emil auditions for the role of John Merrick in the upcoming film 'The Elephant Man', before being run over by his chum Boddicker
There are a lot of things that can result in death besides nuclear waste, but not all medical symptoms should be a reason to be afraid. If you need to know more about a health issue without consulting with a medical professional then you can go online and find plenty of health information for free.
I like it! However there were some far more unlikeable villians in the film more deserving of such grizzly death I think. My brother showed me this when I was far too young and impressionable, not that it has affected my development. Baah!
A possible Accidental death, seeing as Emil probably did not want to become to human equivilant of melting cheese and I'm pretty sure the gang didn't want to run him over. Speaking of which, what about Explosion? After all, as the article says, he explodes over the windscreen.
Yeh, Probably "Accidental" but the "Explosion" is more like a "Splattering"
P.S. Is his name "Clarence Boddicker" or just "Clarence"?
Boddicker is his last name.
I was just thinking, someone should've told Cain in Robocop 2 just how well trying to run down that Robocop in a truck works.
Yeah. If it did happen, here's how the words should have been exchanged...
"You know, the last guy who did this ended up being a exploding bunch of melted cheese."
"Oh well, I can only become a brain-in-a-jar once!"

Is it time for we made an obliteration category?
Considering all the cuts to the movie to get it an R rating, I'm surprised they left this scene in at all, and didn't just show the truck crashed into the toxic waste implying his death. It is arguably the most gruesome scene in the film, theatrical and unrated.
Apparently the movie team had a hell of a time trying to convince the MPAA to keep the scene in. Test audiences really reacted to this scene (both positively and negatively). Given the wide reaction, the MPAA obviously let it slide since the film was rated R anyways. I can see the movie makers wanting to keep it in. They obviously spent a lot of time (and money) on the makeup work they did on Paul McCrane.
As for the scene, it's certainly one of my most vivid memories of seeing this film for the first time. It was a shocking and repulsive scene and easily the most brutal death in the entire Robocop franchise. Given the limited screen time and yet the charisma McCrane brought to the role of Emil Antonowsky, I kind of find it interesting that such an elaborate death scene was reserved solely for his character. I mean he wasn't even the main villain and yet he is given the most excruciatingly painful death. I understand he is responsible for Murphy's death, but so were Clarence Boddicker, Leon Nash, Joe Cox, and Steve Minh. None of those guys had to endure such an awful death...well Clarence's wasn't pleasant but Leon, Joe, and Steve all got off easy by being shot or blown up.
Did his character deserve to die? Certainly. He played a part in the murder of Murphy and he also took pleasure in tormenting that innocent gas station attendant. Did he deserve to die in such a brutal manner. Ehhhh I dunno.
