Following a high speed chase with a gang of robbers, newly transferred cop Alex Murphy tracks the robbers down to an abandoned industrial complex.

Unfortunately he is captured, and teasingly has his hand blown off by the leader of the gang, Clarence Boddicker (q.v.). Murphy's body is in shock at the sudden dismemberment and he dazedly staggers around the room trying to find an exit.

Well, give that man a hand

The rest of Boddicker's cronies find this very amusing indeed and decide to get in on the action. Leon Nash (q.v.), blasts the remaining stump from Murphy's body and this prompts the remaining members of the gang to start firing bullets into him.

You can just make out the remaining stump being clasted off

Murphy's screams of agony are finally ended when Boddicker, cooler than polar bear sitting in a fridge in Iceland, levels his gun at Murphy and shoots him through the head.

This picture is a no-brainer

Don't worry folks Murphy returns later as......Robocop

[note: the criterion edition of Robocop was used to detail this death scene, and therefore this might differ from the edited for TV scenes you may be accustomed to]

If you're looking for shooting equipment to engage in more legal things, like sport shooting for example, then going online and reading reviews on sports gear would be a good way to help decide on what brand and model of shooting or paintball supplies would work best for you. There are plenty of sports equipment reviews out there to read, too.

Won't disappoint you! Here is some measly feedback!!
Loved that movie and Peter Weller- great death scene- amazing how the dummy looked so much like Weller, must've been kind of weird for him too. Wonder if he got to take a pot shot at it????

Are you saying it was an animatronic dummy? if so, then that was very impressive -
I always assumed that, apart from the hand (which had to be prosthetic), it was squibs and nice camera work that created the effect.

For me, it is a memorable death scene, as despite seeing countless deaths in countless films, i still remember this one for its sheer brutality.

Definitely. Especially when they show it from Murphy's perspective, seeing the sheer joyful hatred and unabashed murderous glee in the eyes of those who would murder him. It gave you a lot of sympathy for the guy later on, especially when fighting Red (I love him in that 70's show) at the end.

Yep Mouseburger, it was a dummy- the scene were Boddicker's gang was blowing him away, that was the fake Weller. I think the scene were he is dead, is the dummy as well.

Since they said every part of Murphy (sans the face) was to be thrown way isn't this more of a "Reincarnation"?

Trivia: Even HBO had to trim a few parts off! (At least the version I saw) This also applies to Mr. Kinney, [www.moviedeaths.com] even in the HBO version, I didn't see him laying bloody on the ground.

P.S. Not being the most computer-savvy person, How do you put a link on a word itself?

i dont think this is the case is it? after all he has to eat baby food in order to keep his vital organs alive.

ok, he has a tough exo-skeleton, but i think that underneath he is still the same Alex Murphy, which is a sub-plot of the film really.

wrt the version of the film - i have the criterion edition, which is considerably more violent than the ordinary version.

Then explain Vader. You can argue that Murphy's mind-frame is the same, but, if you analyze the film, it most definitely isn't (At least not completely), and although the organs stayed mostly intact, (INCONCEIVABLE!) Murphy's external body is destroyed.

heh, you are enjoying those links Mr Briggswinking smiley

Vader is slightly different - but there will always be exceptions to the rules. For me, Vader transforms both physically and mentally. The good person that was Anakin Skywalker is replaced by the throat crushing, asthma suffering Vader.

Therefore i would say this is fair to call a reincarnation
Comment 9 by 'Mr. Briggs Inc.' (reply to this comment)
But Anakin had gone to the dark side before he was transformed, he would have crushed nameless admirals necks before if he were authorized to, The Vader suit just gave him more menace and authority.
Comment 10 by 'Mr Mouseburger' (reply to this comment)
we should probably be having this debate under Anakin Skywalker's death....oh well.

He has not really turned to the dark side before this fight. Padme goes to find him to try and make him see the error of his ways - initially this looks to have worked until Obi Wan appears and the few threads of goodness in Anakin's mind are severed.

How about in general chat? after all, this debate is at the core about reincarnation.

It was Emil who blasted Murphy's arm off.

If you click on the separate categories of this death, a couple of times it's listed under The Princess Bride, and once it's listed under Predator.

Nice spot Jenny, we will get our technical bods to have a look at it.

When it comes to movie deaths, this is defintely one that goes in my top ten. Never until seeing Robocop did I see a death scene so gripping, so nasty, so full of blood, so gut wrenching, so unforgettable. I have always loved this scene and always will. I remember when Clarence said "Well, give the man a hand!" after blowing Murphy's hand off. I laughed the first time. Great pun, Clarence. Oh, and my thanks to FOTHERMUCKER for showing it was Emil who shot the rest of Murphy's arm off. I always wondered which one of those fucker thugs did that during Murphy's mutilation. Anyway, like I said, among the best I've ever seen. Hope for more like it in future movies.

Well.. this shotgun blasts dont' penetrate Murphy's vest, thats why his internal organs are still okay. He was horrendously traumatised and bruised by the kinetic energy, all stumbly and hobbly, but the fatal shot was Clarence's pistol shot to the forehead.

Normal medical attention would have saved him if it weren't for Clarence.
Comment 19 by 'The jawn' (reply to this comment)
it very clearly does penetrate his vest as evidenced when murphy is in the er and his clothes are taken off and we can see the wounds (funnily enough i think both of his nipples were shot off). Plus as he is being shot in the chest and stomach why would he be screaming if the bullets werent penetrating the vest
Comment 20 by 'TK' (reply to this comment)
Ever been shot while wearing a bullet proof vest? The vests stop the bullets, but they do not absorb all the kinetic energy. It still hurts like a biatch. Feels like getting shot with a BB or a pellet gun. No break in the skin, but it still freakin hurts.
