It's not so much the death of Mr. Blonde that makes this a classic movie moment, but the actions prior to his demise. Following a bungled robbery attempt, Mr. Blonde, Mr. Orange and a cop they have taken as a hostage are all hiding out in a warehouse, which serves as the setting for the majority of the film.
Mr. Blonde has got the cop tied up in a chair, and is commencing in torturing the poor bastard. "Alone at last", are the first words to come from Mr. Blonde's mouth, apparently completely oblivious to Mr. Orange's presence. A bit of conversation goes on, and the cop tries to explain to Mr. Blonde that he knows nothing about the situation -
"I told you I don't know anything about any fucking set up. I've only been on the force eight months, nobody tells me anything! I don't know anything! You can torture me if you want--"
And Mr. Blonde retorts by saying, "--Thanks, don't mind if I do" and he begins the torture with a nice slap around the cops face, and an explanation from Mr. Blonde how he doesn't really care what the cop does or doesn't know, he is going to torture the cop regardless.
He tapes up the cop's mouth, and switches on the radio to K-BILLY'S Super Sounds of the Seventies weekend, and "Stuck in the middle with you" is now echoing around the warehouse. With perfect rhythm, Mr. Blonde pulls out a nice sharp knife in front of the cop, pulls up a chair next to him and sits down.
Mr. Blonde happily sings along to the tune when, without missing a beat, he suddenly gives the cop a nice big gash across his face. This was merely an hors d'oeuvres though, as he then decides to grab the cop’s right ear, and slices it clean off. Tiring of this knife torture, Mr. Blonde then leaves the warehouse to bring back some gasoline from his car. He pours the gasoline all over the cop and teases the cop with the promise that he is about to go up in flames.
Mr. Blonde strikes a match, still dancing to the song on the radio, and, just when we think we're going to get a good 30 seconds of burning flesh...BANG!!
Mr. Orange takes down Mr. Blonde with a shot to the chest, and all is over and done with. A great film sequence, but sadly not mindlessly violent enough to get a mark in the 80's.
Nice one
By the way, I would like to tell you I know the tortured cop's name. It's Marvin Nash. Though after what Mr Blonde did to him, Mutilated Nash is more like it.
A great write-up... but rather than a knife as stated, Mr Blonde (Michael Madsen) actually uses a cut-throat razor which he removes from his boot with which to disfigure and torture [said] Police Officer - Marvin Nash. The scene is powerful given the bemused, shocked and somewhat angered expression on Mr Blonde's face as he having been shot now realises the gravity of the situation (the fact that he has had a full clip emptied into his torso) and slowly limply slips down the warehouse wall.
The killer should be credited as Freddy Newandyke / Mr. Orange and the dearly departed as Vic Vega / Mr. White

Yeah sorry about that, accidentally typed down White instead of Blonde.
I love this death. Mr. Blonde is such a bastard, my sister and I actually cheered when he gets blown away out of nowhere. Cheers to Michael Madsen for playing such an effective, sadistic creep.
