Gobler is the assistant to Nazi Colonel Dietrich, and when Indiana Jones hijacks the truck containing the Ark of the Covenant, Gobler gives chase in a car with a mounted machine gun.
It looks bad for Indy, as he has to fend off not only Gobler's car, but several Nazis on the truck and a motorcycle.

Those pesky Nazis are really persistant
However, in the latter part of the chase, Indy rams Gobler's car with the truck, knocking it off a cliff. Gobler's usually smug expression is changed to one of terror as he plunges to meet his maker.

It is the end of the road for Gobler...
So I suppose that he's a goody in an EXTREMELY minor kind of way?
your observational skills are beyond compare Mr Briggs! Rest assured that i do not consider Nazis as "goodys" and as such i have tweaked it to what it should be...
I consider this the ultimate Driving Off A Cliff death. I love how the gorge just literally comes out of nowhere, and the scene is shot in such a way that when it is revealed it's quite breathtaking. We see a closeup of Gobler doing the standard "Aahhhhh!" scream, the a shot of his car flying through the air, and only then do we cut to a shot of the gorge. It's just one of those moments where you go, "What in the world is he screaming abou-- Oh. Ow."
Well[ said Kooshie. eah this is one of the better "gorge comes out of nowhere' scenes. My other Favorite is Colnel Vogel's death. Besides falling, falling off a gorge is my favorite movie way to die
Random, useless trivia, but apparently the other anonymous Nazi officer riding with Gobler is played by Nick Gillard, who played the guy hit with the rotating periscope in Last Crusade.
Oh, and, as with Naomi, I think "Chase" should be amended to include any character that is killed during a chase sequence. Because in films it's usually the good guys being pursued, the chances of the chase ending in the quarry's demise are slim, however bad guys both major and minor die in droves during such sequences, so we're barring people like Gobler and Naomi from admittance into a category they could fill up nicely.
Anyone seen the recent USA and Sci-Fi Channel airings of Raiders? They apparently redid Gobler's death scene....
