Ten years before the story takes place, his former pirate mates marooned Captain Jack Sparrow on an island. As a part of the pirate code, he is left on the island with a pistol that contains one shot. It is up to Sparrow to decide whether to shoot himself or die slowly on the island. Of course, he's Jack Sparrow he chooses neither!
Instead, Jack decides to save that one bullet for the pirate who led the mutiny against him, his former first mate, Barbossa. This is not as easy as it may appear because Barbossa and his crew have a curse upon them, involving Aztec treasure they stole which prevents them from dying. However, during a final duel with Barbossa, Jack Sparrow is able to lift this curse (with some help from Legolas - I mean - Orlando Bloom) and he shoots Barbossa dead with the very bullet given to him when he was marooned on the island ten years ago.
Swordplay never added to Barbossa's death, save for the fact that he was fighting with one immediately before dying. He was killed only by a gun and the lifting of the curse.
This could do with a much more in-depth write-up. It skips alot of important facts (like why the 'Offscreen Killer' catergory there - it's made to look like Barbossa shot Elizabeth).
Also, we need a Resurrection catergory on this one.
SPOILER!
He returns at the very end of Dead Man's Chest.
D'oh! I would've never guessed that!
I don't think that that would apply for Barbossa (Barbi?) if it was only in the sequel he was resurrected.
If Jean Grey can count as a Reincarnation, Barbi...ossa can count for Resurrection.
he returned at the end of Dead Man's Crest to what form an uneasy alliance with Will Turner?
Yes, actually. To supposedly resurrect...
SPOILER!
Jack Sparrow, who dies at the end.
yeah, I def think ressurection and maybe cheating death would be adequate for this death- more ressurection though.
I'd label it as unsatisfying though. Imo, simple shot to the heart was just....boring.
At World's End does not make clear how he is resurrected. Tia Dalma does however mention that Barbossa was plain dead, which is how she can manage to bring back Barbossa and not Jack, whose body and soul is trapped in the locker as "punishment" in a sort of limbo.
At World's End also gives him a first name, Hector.
