Robocop: Alex J. Murphy (Peter Weller)

Posted by Mr Mouseburger
Ever been shot while wearing a bullet proof vest? The vests stop the bullets, but they do not absorb all the kinetic energy. It still hurts like a biatch. Feels like getting shot with a BB or a pellet gun. No break in the skin, but it still freakin hurts.

Has anyone seen the Youtube video where Murphy's screaming is looped ad nauseum? Hilarious!!
If you look closely when murphys gun is hit from his hand it lands in a bucket of money covered in blood, maybe the director was commenting on greed which leads to violence which happens in all greed led societys.
Maybe I am looking to closely but it is noticeable.
Not necessarily, yes murphy was wearing armor but the sheer power of the shotguns broke the armor and penetrated his chest you can see in the next scene when the medics try to save his life gaping wounds are visible. Plus it would still hurt even without penetration from that range and that kind of firepower. He was shot in the region of 40 times! This is a great scene and gets the film started with sheer brutality. What i dont understand how could Murphys brain still be functional to incorporate into a cyborg as he was shot through the head at point blank range, which kinda makes it more viable that this film was about reincarnation in many ways the director Paul Verhovean wanted robocop to be likened to jesus so this would explain reincarnation.

I think the brain (or what was left of it) was modified which makes sense when you think about it. Part of his brain is still human but one of the major subplots of the movie is how his humanity was almost eclipsed by the machine so it can be assumed that what was left of his brain was rebuilt robotically.
