I can definitely agree on some points and disagree with others. I honestly like the setup of this film, it's got a better foundation IMO than most haunting-films nowadays in which some poor schmuck/schmucks just happen upon some curse. In the same vein, I thought Ganush was a marvelously-played antagonist, one of the best things about the film. I enjoy some of the things Christine does throughout the film, she can act professional but shows her roots at some points, she
tries to be a nice girl (Not wanting to kill the cat at first, not just shoving the button off at the first chance...), but is forced into savage decisions... All in all more well-rounded than many contemporary horror victims. The stuff I did not like was the very-awkwardly placed humor, the "here-kitty-kitty" and the Bugs-Bunny-meets-Evil-Dead-2 scene both succeeded only in making me groan. More to the bad side, much too much was much too predictable.
Now, as you said the death itself was indeed hindered by just how awfully predictable it was, though I thought the guy would get the curse in the end myself. Still, if they had made things a bit more subtle (And had better effects for hell), I think this would have been a pretty good end to the movie.
