Serenity: Hoban "Wash" Washburn (Alan Tudyk)

Posted by Mr Mouseburger
It has been a week since I saw the Serenity movie and the death of Wash and, I know it sounds silly, but it was such a shock the way it happened, and I am still rather gutted. My husband and I watched the series, one episode every week, and came to know the crew like friends over time. I don't care whose idea it was for that to happen but it was awful and I sobbed out loud so see it.
Wash's death was sloppy and seemed like it was "forced". Like maybe he asked to be killed because he wanted to move on and that was the best the writers could come up with.
Completely agree with you there, Harleyquinn.

Wash was my favourite character and then they went and killed him with a spike. sad smiley
Wash's death just blew me away. It's always a ballsy move to kill off a beloved main character, and I applaud Whedon for that. But I still think that Jayne should have bit it instead. He deserved it more than anyone and it would have been fitting for him to die in battle. Killing off Wash was just senseless and it made me feel unsettled. I was hoping to get some character closure with this film, but not like this. Bummer.
I could have gotten over Washes death if they would have given him a cool way to go but he goes threw all that just to be taken out by a reaver spike I mean come on get creative like he saves everyone be sacrificing himself:armed: or something. depressing
Deltax918x: Wash safely piloted them away from the reaver fleet, directly *through* an alliance fleet lying in ambush for them, while dodging stray fire and individual melees. When Serenity took a direct hit to its vital navigation system, he managed to convert an imminent crash that would have killed everyone into a safe crash landing in which everyone survived intact. In my book, he died a fucking hero.
