Actually, John doesn't hang up - he hands it over to the T-800, who impersonates John and asks "what's wrong with Wolfie?" The T-1000 answers that Wolfie is fine, little realizing he's been duped - the dog's name is really Max. The T-800 hangs up, before calmly summing up the situation to John: "your foster parents are dead."

hehe, yes, that is indeed correct, i was being lazy - i guess that will teach me for trying to omit details from the death!!
