We need offscreen killing we don't know who killed him

I thought it was obvious a German soldier shot, a specific, credited German soldier.

I know huh? This is so fricking annoying! Why would the released soldier suddenly apprear infront of them while he was walking back in the earlier part?! Go to this site: [www.sproe.com]. Isn't it kinda obvious that it's another person???
Actually it is the same person, around the end of the movie Steamboat Willie says "Upham." to the Corporal Upham (who he bonded with in the earlier scene) and Upham shoots Willie as a form of revenge and guilt.
it is the same soldier "steamboat willie" released earlier in the moive by miller (Hanks) that eventually puts an end to him by a shot from a bolt action kar98k. to the right lung.

what i dont understand is why miller would put himself directly in the enemy line of fire. he has to realize that he, Reiben, and Ryan are the only remaining soldiers and he was more valuable than that. just my thoughts.
Guys, let's close the books on this one. Steamboat Willie did not kill Melish and Miller at the end of the movie. It was another soldier who looked similar, but was another character. The latter kraut yelled Upham because he heard Melish repeatedly call for him during their knife fight. Upham was settling a score at the end of the movie - for the second Kraut who killed Upham's comrades.

I think he knew that it was all over and that he just wanted to stop the tanks. Self-sacrifice?

No it was actually Steamboat Willie that killed Miller (although I don't know about Melish). Right before he dies he says, "Upham, I know you," before Upham shoots him. I don't recall Melish ever yelling Upham's name during the fistfight.
