I remember watching this scene and thinking: "This is one stubborn monk. God, won't he *ever* die?!" Alan Rickman's acting was simply brilliant as Rasputin. This part had been made for him. When Rasputin did die, I was overcome with both sadness and relief. Sadness that someone like Rasputin (even though he is a womanizer and sometimes an unpleasant man) has died (and died in that way), and relief that he did die. Overall, the whole movie, and that dying scene, was a phenomenal work of art.
