I think Ambivalent (Major) only goes for the main character or main villain who goes too far into the grey area to be considered a protagonist/villain. Sonny doesn't really qualify since the story didn't really revolve around him. The only people in the film I can see being Ambivalent (Major) are Michael Corleone (who doesn't die) and his father Vito (who does).
That makes sense, but as the son of the don, he should have known better. I mean, he wasn't stupid, but if you can't control your temper(especially when there's a lot of people out to kill you), you can become stupid.
