This is a very detailed recollection of the scene from "The Rock", except, you are referring to Captain Darrow the entire time. Captain Frye was blasted out of the window by Cage when he launched the gas-less rocket.

Ooooops! Heheh, wow, upon further research I just realized I've got Captains Frye and Darrow backwards the entire time. Geez. I feel like an idiot now...but thanks.

Cage mentions in the dialogue that VX causes you to go into spasms, spitting out crushed up internal organs but not until after your skin melts off. Nasty indeed.

Note, though, we never actually see it go that far (thank God) - we have a brief close-up of the marine at the start as his skin bubbles up and swells very gruesomely and we only see the start of what happens to Fyre.
