A new category has been added to take into account those deaths where a person is shot by something other than a gun - usually arrows, darts and spears.

Would a shot from a laser count? or would that just count as "shot"?

i think lasers would still count as shot. projectile is for the more primative forms of weaponry, although it could include being hit by most sorts of objects under the right conditions. The main this is the person has to throw the weapon, not just drop it from a building.

As an example, bullseye in Daredevil causes a couple of projectile deaths (the paper clips in the throat of the barfly and the peanut in the mouth of the old lady).

If it's fired from a gun, it will be "shot".
Projectile is intended to be a blanket category for objects that are propelled through the air with lethal force.
Bullets are an exception, as gunshot deaths are so common.

I'm tempted to rename "knife" to "stabbed", so as to make it clear that anything jagged or pointy that is manually plunged into someone qualifies.
People can still search by "killing object" to filter deaths that feature knives.

And thrown knives would obviously then be moved into "projectile".

As an update, "knife" has indeed been renamed to "stabbed" and at least a dozen deaths have been accordingly reclassified.
