New Archetype?

I was thinking if there should be a goody / baddy / ambivalent (Medium) or something similar? You know, one between minor and major. It could be for characters such as somewhat important henchmen. Another example could be Russell Casse in Independence Day, the film follows him to an extent, but not to a depth like Will Smith's, Jeff Goldblum's, and Bill Pullman's characters. I think it would make the classification a lot simpler and easier.

Let me know what you think.

That is an interesting proposition although what would be the strictest definition of it? e.g. In Raiders of the Lost Ark do Dietrich and Toht qualify as Baddy (Medium) since Belloq's the main villain or do they remain the same?

I'd say Dietrich is probably medium but Toht would probably be major. He's in it much more than Dietrich and isn't someone's henchmen.

Actually when I watched the movie it seemed like it was the other way around. Toht was essentially Dietrich's underling. This can be identified because in the extended universe, Toht's rank is Major (and Dietrich is a Colonel thereby outranking him) and the fact that Dietrich says when they're looking for the Ark: "I have just the man for the job." Besides Toht only has a big role in two scenes so I think Dietrich is more of a Baddy (Major) and Toht is a Baddy (Medium).

Total Recall - Richter is Baddy (Medium)
The Untouchables - Frank Nitti is Baddy (Medium)
The Dark Knight - Rachel Dawes is Goody (Medium)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - Padme Amidala is Goody (Medium)

I like that idea a lot. It would also be handy for some of the characters in the Lord of the Rings series, ie. Boromir would probably class as a Goody (Medium), as would Théoden. Denethor would most likely class as an Ambivalent (Medium), as he has quite a significant role in The Return of the King.

Also (and I know I'm going on a bit here) there are so many villain henchmen from the James Bond series who could be classed as Baddy (Medium) too. Donald Grant, Oddjob, Fiona Volpe, Mr. Kidd and Mr. Wint, Tee Hee, Gobinda, Necros, Milton Krest, Stamper, Miranda Frost... yeah, quite a few.
