DVD collection software?

DVD collection software?
November 14, 2007 11:51PM
My other half is moaning about the space being taken up by DVD cases, and to be honest she has a point. So, I'm thinking of using the "throw all the cases and use disc wallets the size of suitcases instead" system. As soon as I do this I'll forget what titles I own though, so can anyone suggest any software to help index them?

I know a few regulars on here use online managers, but I don't trust any sites like that unless they provide an "Export Collection" option. No way do I want to spend days typing in all my DVDs only for the site to shut down.

Cheers,

OB

I should add, it would be nice to be able to browse the collection by category, humour, horror etc.

I know DVDSpot is very reliable and allows you do that, but I'm not sure if has an Export Collection function.

DVDSpot does have an export feature - you can export your collection from a list in a Wordpad file or a spreadsheet file.

i use DVD profiler which is damn cool, you can order by genre, whether it is anamorphic widescreen etc. It used to be free, with slightly limited functionality, but i think it was a one of payment of $24.95 meant you could have full functionality and get a mobile version of it, so you will never go out and buy the same DVD again because you idnt realise you had itgrinning smiley

the real bear is keying in all the bar codes (unless you have a barcode scanner) it took me ages to key in the 1000s of dvds i own.

I really need to ebay some of them off as i cant afford and extension to my house to fit them all inwinking smiley

Just wondering, what is everyone's collection like? Mine seems to be very mainstream, except for the odd thing.

I would also like to praise DVDSpot and how easy it is to add everything there.

Mine is still very small yet, containing some semi-obscure horror. Should I feel bad for submitting TV edited deaths?

I guess it depends on how edited they are...

MY collection is rather varied, but i would say it is fairly mainstream (i have all the classic blockbusters), but i also have some of the most obscure films known to man i.e. Rottweiler - a classic Spanish yarn about a robotic dog programmed to kill some escaped convict who has agreed to participate in a sadistic sort of game. At least i think that is what it is about.....

I actually have an awful lot of BBC dvds - i am a huge fan of Auntie Beeb, so most comedy shows produced in the last 30 years, i will have (please note, i do not consider last of the summer wine as a comedy!)

My friends and I like to exchange increasingly obscure DVD films which involve creatures (look out for some deaths soon from the film Boa vs. Python). At some point i will export the list.

I guess you don't live where I do , American SciFi channel has showed those two obscure films multiple times!
