Favourite scenes to show how tough the hero is?

This kind of scene is a staple of the Hollywood Action flick - the (usually muscular) hero of the film needs to face some minor peril early on in the film, so they can do something cool and earn their credentials as being a Major Badass.

One of the most pointless that I remember is Stallone's character in The Specialist. This was on TV the other night, but unfortunately I missed the first half hour, which contained the scene in question. I remember it as being as follows though: Stallone needs to get somewhere and for no apparent reason decides to take the bus. Once on board a group of young punks start cheeking him (or perhaps some old woman) and after virtually no attempt to resolve the situation peacefully he hurls them all through the rear bus window. He's not even supposed to be a mindless meathead character, he's supposed to be this cool, professional explosives expert! cool smiley

Another favourite is a film with Sean Connery as some high ranking military hero of advancing years. A young, lower ranking tough gives him some backchat and Connery tells him "I could beat you with one thumb."
The foolish younger soldier doesn't believe this, so Connery proceeds to poke him into submission with his thumb - seriously.

So, what are your faves?

I saw it on ITV2 also - but kind of skirted past it because seeing Sharon Stone and Slyvester Stallone have sex is pretty low on my "things I need to see" list.

Top this example from The Marine (I seem to mention that one a lot) - we have marine Jon Triton single-handedly take out 5 or 6 Al-Queada members in hand-to-hand combat and gun fighting, just as they are about to excecute several hostages. Despite several hundred rounds of gunfire going off, there is not one scratch on him or the hostages.

Blaine in Predator gets shot early on and does not even flinch, even remarking "i ain't got time to bleed". Not the main goody, but this was surely to emphasise how tough he was, and also to show how incredibly tough the Predator is when he makes Blaine his bee-atch.

OB you have reminded me i need to get that film, it is one of my faves, especially when he hides the bomb in a saucer!!

He's not the hero, but I like Gary Busey's Mr Joshua in Lethal Weapon burning his arm with a cigarette lighter. Nice!
