Marquez is attempting a coup in order to depose El Presidente. However, El Mariachi has managed to smuggle the El Presidente out of the palace and is waiting for Marquez.

Upon seeing Mariachi, Marquez orders his troops out of the room and we prepare for a final showdown. Mariachi's thirst for revenge is great; Marquez killed the love of his live, Carolina, his daughter and left Mariachi for dead.

We then have a Mexican standoff, where Marquez asks how Mariachi's wife and child are, possibly to goad Mariachi. He replies flatly that they are dead, and so is he. When Marquez asks how he [Marquez] is, Mariachi replies "alive and well...." and at this point the pair draw their guns.

Marquez gets off the first shot, but Mariachi twists his body and avoids getting hit. Then, from behind his back he shoots at Marquez. This results in both of Marquez's knees getting blown off, and he falls to the ground in agony.

Mariachi walks up slowly to Marquez and finishes the line he started "...in hell" and shoots Marquez in the head.

Loved the gory, knee-blown-off stagger he does before dying. Very cringe-worthy.

Classic case of Revenge. Marquez killed his wife and daughter.
