Tinker Mason owns the local garage on the island, and is one of the first of the island's inhabitants to start going insane from the intense heatwave. Up until the point where he actually goes nuts, Tinker had been acting rather oddly anyway and it is implied he was always something of a local weirdo. Anyway, throughout the film he has been making eyes at Angela Roberts, and upon finally losing his grip on sanity, the first thing he does is make a beeline for Angela’s room at the Swan and try to rape her.
He's foiled though when she hits him over the head with an ashtray, and when Jeff Callum and Godfrey Hanson burst in to aid Angela, Tinker is forced to escape through the window and makes a run for it.
During the ensuing foot chase, Tinker hides in the bushes and surprises Jeff as he comes running by, walloping the innkeeper with a big stick. Hanson stops to help Jeff, and this gives Tinker the time he needs to make it to his garage, where he fires up a blowtorch and awaits his pursuers. Instead of Jeff and Hanson, Tinker finds one of the aliens responsible for the heatwave on his doorstep.

Tinker paler, soul due...die
Attracted by his blowtorch, the off-screen creature approaches Tinker, backing the crazed mechanic into a corner. He screams and beats his fists uselessly against a car fender as the intense heat coming off the creature's body fries him alive, turning the whole screen white.

Tinker is subjected to the most horrific torture known to man: New Kids on the Block's Greatest Hits
when it counts as "Combustion" this death should not count as "Monster".
The combustion was caused by the monster (By sheer body heat? It was hard to enjoy that film with that little plot point.) in fact, why aren't the others under "Monster"?
Trivia: Did you know that Night of the Big Heat and Island of Terror are often regarded as companions, for information, see this:
Yeah, they were made by the same company and had some of the same cast as well as the same production crew; NOTBH was based on a book though.
Some more of your grabs Kooshmeister.
I dont suppose you can do me a favour and jot out the order the people die in the film can you, we now have a sorting mechanism based on chronological order.
Oh, sure. No problem.
1. Homeless guy (I haven't done this one yet, though)
2. Bob Hayward
3. Tinker Mason
4. Dr. Stone
5. Stella Hayward (another one I have yet to do)
6. Gerald Foster
7. Hanson
Thanks for that Kooshmeister, you should now be able to see they are in chronological order.
I have to admit i am curious to have a look at this film, having read some of the deaths, but not before i purchase Island of Terror
There's a bit of a goof on the main page. The address for screengrab two is "night_of_the_big_heat-tinker_mason-2.jpg", but on the random picture link (on the front page) it's "night_of_the_big_heat_tinker_mason-2.jpg", so the picture doesn't come up.
