Fara Island is being overrun by invisible aliens whose bodies give off tremendous heat which has inadvertently caused the entire island to be in the midst of a heat wave despite it being midwinter. The aliens modus operandi is to emit a high-pitched whirring noise that drives people mad.
In an attempt to let the outside world know what is happening on the island, town physician Dr. Vernon Stone volunteers to make a run up to the island's radar outpost so that he can get on a radio and warn the mainland.
He keeps in touch with the other characters; scientist Dr. Godfrey Hanson, innkeeper Jeff Callum, and Jeff's wife Frankie via walkie-talkie. On his way to the outpost though Stone's car overheats and breaks down near the abandoned gravel pit (which is about as clichéd a place to be killed as you can get).
Stone gets out and decides to walk the rest of the way, but it is not long before he hears the whirring noise that signals the appearances of the aliens. Hanson tries to warn Stone to get away, but Stone shouts back that he can't hear him over the noise. Stone then begins to scream, grab his head and drop the walkie-talkie.

The screen goes white, signifying that Stone has just learned what a burrito feels like in a microwave oven as he is baked alive by an intense burst of heat from the unseen extraterrestrial he's had the misfortune of running into.

Don't adjust your set folks, it is meant to look this way...
