Mehemet Bey, an intense young Egyptian man commonly seen wearing a red fez, is a devoted worshipper of the god known as Karnak. When the British archaeological family comprising of Stephen Banning (q.v.), John Banning, and Joseph Whemple (q.v.) violates the tomb of Princess Ananka, high priestess of his god, a furious Mehemet appropriates the Scroll of Life, the text needed to control Kharis, the mummified guardian of Ananka's tomb.
Under the alias of Mehemet Akir, he travels to Engerfield, England, the home of the Banning family. He brings Kharis with him, and orders him to kill off the members of the family one at a time. Stephen and Joseph die relatively easily, but John is a different story. Kharis fails to kill John the first time thanks to his wife Isobel, who uses her uncanny resemblance to Princess Ananka (whom Kharis loved and respected in life) to make the Mummy spare her husband.
Furious, Mehemet accompanies Kharis on the Mummy's second attempt to murder John. When Isobel again persuades Kharis not to kill her husband, Mehemet, realizing what's going on, orders Kharis to kill her. Not surprisingly, Kharis refuses, so Mehemet takes his knife and walks towards Isobel to do the deed himself. Mehemet never makes it to Isobel, though, as Kharis rebels and seizes him by the arm, making him drop the knife. Mehemet's life then comes to an abrupt end as Kharis breaks his ex-master's spine by bending him over backwards until it snaps.
Kooshmeister,
can we really call this betrayal? the mummy is not really an ally of Mehemet's, he is only following the magic of the scroll, which has returned him to life, isnt he?
Well, he seemed to follow Mehemet's commands even when Mehemet did not have the scroll, and him suddenly out of the blue attacking him, thereby rebelling against him, smacked of betrayal to me. *shrugs*
ok, fair enough i will add the category, just confirming really. i think this will be similar to the Hessian in Sleepy Hollow who, once the curse is lifted from him, goes after Mary Van Tassel (who was controlling him) with a vengeance.
how come Mehemet Bey wore a Red Fez and not a Boater,Busby,Topper,Jockey,Porkpie,Cap, or Bowler?
Because it's a style of hat common and popular in the part of the world he comes from, and he's a very traditional guy? He didn't wear any of those other styles of hats because he wasn't from England. Besides, the fez helps identify him as being Egyptian to the audience.
