Joseph Whemple is the brother of Stephen Banning (q.v.), who participated in the excavation (for excavation, read desecration) of the tomb of Princess Ananka. As such, modern-day Karnak fanboy, Mehemet Bey (q.v.), is baying for Joseph's blood and it is Joseph who is next on Mehemet's hit list, after his brother.

Joseph has just finished going over some of his deceased brother's notes with his nephew, John Banning, who has chastised him for believing in the curse of the tomb. As he is heading up to bed, who should burst through the front door but Kharis (The Mummy), the guardian of Ananka's tomb, and Mehemet Bey's personal hit man.

Confronted with the giant, heavily swathed assassin, Joseph can only stand motionless on the staircase and gawk, kindly allowing Kharis to walk right up to him and grab him by the throat. Despite a heroic effort on the part of John Banning, nothing can save Joseph, and the Mummy succeeds in choking Joseph to death.

The Man with the Choking HA-AAAANDS! Despite being on Universal's list, is the Mummy really a monster? After all, MDDB seems to be divided on the whole Monster vs. Zombie concept (Shaun of the Dead's David and Resident Evil's Timothy Cain).
