Satine is dying of consumption, but she has finally achieved her dream of becoming an actress. It is opening night and she has just abandoned her lover Christian for the rich duke who financed the play. Taking over the role of the lead male (who has fallen unconscious backstage), Christian confronts Satine onstage, and under the guise of the play, pays her off as a whore before storming out of the theatre, heartbroken as the Duke watches smugly from the audience. However, Satine calls out to him at the last minute and sings a song he wrote for the two of them to express that, no matter what would happen, they would always love each other. Christian turns back, and after some understandable hesitance, he returns to her onstage. During the final number of the show, the lovers are joyously reunited. The Duke is not happen and rushes the stage with a gun, but the owner of the theatre, who had been the driving force between Satine and the Duke's relationship, finally steps out and dispatches of him. The curtain falls, and the audience goes wild, completely oblivious as Satine falls for the final time backstage and dies in Christian's arms.
[I haven't seen this film but the writeup is in no way sarcastic enough. It is also in no way a Blaze of Glory death! - OB]
