Simba had been living in exile since Scar sent his hyenas to kill him after his father died. While the hyenas (again) failed to kill him, they promise that if he ever did return, he would die. That, and the knowledge that he was responsible for his father's death (he wasn't but Scar made him believe it was his fault)keeps him away from his home. It isn't until he meets up with Nala that he learns about what is happening at home. Scar's first ruling as king was to let the Hyenas have the run of pride rock, which destroyed everything that he remembered from his home. It takes a little more convincing from Nala, Rafiki, and the ghost of his dead father before Simba finally gets the hint and heads back toward his home.

He makes it home in time to see Scar berating his mother, Sarabi, for refusing to go hunting, even though there is nothing left to hunt. When Scar hits Sarabi for comparing him to Mufasa, Simba roars in anger and leaps down towards them. Scar confuses him with Mufasa for a minute, and backs off, muttering "Mufasa? No! You're dead!". Once it is determined that it is Simba, not Mufasa, Scar slides back into his nasty demeanor, knowing that he can hold Mufasa's death over Simba. He makes short work of doing so also, making Simba admit in front of the rest of the pride that he was responsible for his father's death.

Hurt and confused, Simba begins to back away from the advancing scar and his hyenas -- and he backs himself right off the edge of pride rock, he manages to grab onto the edge though, as a bold of lightning from the advancing storm ignights the brush underneath him.

Scar can't believe his luck, and he has to gloat a little. "Now this looks familiar, Hmmmm, where have I seen this before? Oh yes, this is exactly how your father looked before he died" Simba looses his grip and begins to slide backward, Scar isn't letting him go that easily, and he sinks his claws into Simba's paws in exactly the same way he did with Mufasa. He leans in close to savor the moment, whispering into simba's ear "and here's my little secret, I killed Mufasa" This gives Simba the strength to somehow launch himself over the edge, pinning Scar to the ground with the shout "Murderer! Tell them the truth!" With a little convincing in the form os a paw stomped onto his throat, Scar gasps out his secret for the rest of the lions to hear. This causes in all out melee between the hyenas and the lions.

Simba is separated from Scar in the fighting, but he spies his cowardly Uncle trying to creep away. Wanting blood for everything he has gone through, Simba gives chase. Scar runs right to the upper plateau of pride rock, the advancing fire cutting off his escape. Simba is undaunted by the fire though, and charges through it with a snarl. Scar is left to beg for his life "but I am family!" He spies some of his hyenas, who have followed him "It is the hyenas who are the real enemy! it was their fault it was their idea" The hyenas aren't too happy, so they leave Scar to his fate. Simba doesn't believe him though, but he tells Scar that he won't kill family, because he isn't like Scar. When Scar asks him what he wants to do, Simba tells him "Run away Scar and never return" mirroring the line Scar told a frightened young Simba right after the death of his father. Scar begins to slink away, but has a change of heart, and with a sweep of some hot coals into Simba's eyes, decides to fight for the throne.

The fight itself is rather short, with Simba being battered to the edge of the cliff on his back. Scar leaps in for the kill, but Simba kicks him in the abdomen, and Scar's momentum sends him right over the edge and onto the ledge below. Scar is alive though, and he slowly gets to his feet as the hyenas surround him. "Ahh, my friends" he greets them, but they are having none of it "Friends? I thought he said we were the enemy" Scar's fast talking finally got the better of him, and we see the shadows on the hyenas leap onto him before the fire sweeps over everybody.

Written by PyroAfter Scar reveals to Simba that he was the one who murdered Mufasa (rather then make it look like an indirect accident of Simba's doing, which had caused the young rightful heir to flee into exhile), Simba's lionesses immediately take to Simba's side and fight off Scar's hyenas.

During the melee, Scar's cowardly nature shows itself and he flees to the summit of Pride Rock, with Simba in hot pursuit. Finding himself cornered by flames caused by lightning(thunderstorms are very common in Disney climaxes), and Simba wanting to avenge his father, Scar begins begging for mercy, and finally, in desperation, attempts to blame it all on the hyenas, insisting they coaxed him into this (he is completely unaware his main three hyenas had arrived at this moment to back him up, but have overheard what he just said). Simba's not buying it, so Scar then asks Simba if he really has it in him to murder him in cold blood.

Simba proves to his trecherous uncle that he isn't a murderer like him and instead sentences him into exhile, using the same words Scar had said to him long ago. Scar seemingly complies to this, but as soon as he's lowered Simba's guard down he flings a set of burning embers from the fire into his nephew's face, distracting him long enough to strike.

After a vicious battle between the two lions, Scar's skill and experience win out over Simba and he knocks him to the ground and makes one final lunge at him. Simba, however, manages to raise his feet up to catch Scar and fling him over the cliffside.

The impact leaves Scar bruised but not dead. As he stands back up, his hyenas approach him. But they aren't here to assist. The lead hyena, Shenzi, recites what Scar had said about them earlier, the others confirming they heard it too. The other hyenas, who have been starving from Scar's neglectful and irresponsible reign over the Pridelands for long enough have decided he is expendable enough to solve that problem and begin surrounding him.

Scar's attempts to explain himself prove completely futile and he is promptly eaten alive.
