Jack Travis has escaped with a load of weapons from the police warehouse, and is relaxing in his desert housing development. Unfortunately for him though, Riggs and Murtaugh have joined all the dots and worked out where he is hiding.

Our two maverick cops proceed to burn down the housing development and kill off most of Travis's henchmen, much to his annoyance.

The final fight comes when Travis guns down the film's bit of fluff, Lorna (who is Riggs' love interest in this instalment of the franchise). Riggs is incandescent with rage and but is powerless to do anything as Travis wraps a rope around his neck and proceeds to strangle him.

He manages to get loose and a rather silly chase through the burning housing development ensues. Travis is getting desperate, and removes a gang plank to stop Riggs from following him, but didn't count on Riggs' leaping ability. he easily jumps the distance and sends both Travis and himself cashing through the floor and to the ground.

Travis is the first to recover and wastes no time getting in to a digger, with the aim of running down Riggs. Riggs easily has the wherewithal to dodge out of the way, but decides to sit groggily in the path of the digger (for cinematic purposes) taking shots at the diggers bucket with his puny bullets, which have no effect at all.

Travis then makes the catastrophic mistake of all megalomaniacs and gloats at the heroes impending death before it actually arrives. During this time, Murtaugh has thrown Riggs a gun loaded with cop killer bullets. Riggs doesn't hesitate in firing. This time, the bullets easily penetrate the diggers bucket and embed themselves in Travis, who slumps onto the controls stopping the digger.

Riggs has one last exchange with Travis before removing his foot from the brake and sending him crashing into the burning houses, to his death.
