Schmedrick the magician has just released the Unicorn from the confines of the magical cage the witch Mommy Fortuna has put her in as a sideshow attraction for her travelling carnival where she displays various mythical creatures she has "captured"(though nearly all of them are just illusions concealing normal animals) and must hold off Fortuna's hunchbacked assistant Rukh while the unicorn proceeds to free the other animals.
Just as Schmendrick manages to subdue Rukh by knocking him unconcious with the key ring, he is treated to a horrible sight. The Unicorn is approaching the one remaining cage, the one that contains the only other real mythical creature besides herself there... the vulture-like Harpy!
The Unicorn, knowing the Harpy will escape and seek revenge on her sooner or later if she doesn't release her now, ignores Schmendrick's pleas to leave the beast behind and destroys the lock.
The Harpy doesn't waste a second's hesitation to smash apart the cage she was confined to and take to the air. Filled with perpetual rage, the Harpy immediately attacks the Unicorn, but finds she is unable to harm her and thus flies high into the sky so she may seek out someone she has a much larger grudge against.
She doesn't have to wait long as Mommy Fortune appears from behind the abandoned cages and steps out into the open, arms spread out, a look of triumph on her face. She is perfectly aware that the Unicorn never would have escaped without Schmendrick's help, and the Harpy in turn would not have freed herself on her own either, and she is even more aware of the fact that these immortal creatures will both carry the memory of being held captive by her for the rest of their eternal lives. With this in mind, Mommy Fortuna proudly stares death in the face as she shouts up at the Harpy.
"You never would have freed yourselves alone! I held you!!"
An evil smile on her face, Mommy Fortuna welcomes the Harpy to kill her. The Harpy then swoops down on her prey, claws spread, and kills the witch, and the Unicorn and Schmendrick quietly leave before the Harpy remembers they were there (Rukh, however, is not so fortunate).
