Shortly after Schmendrick, Molly Grue, and a mysterious woman named Amalthea (the unicorn in disguise) arrive, the aging and deranged King Haggard's sorceror Mabruk warns him that they will be his downfall, taking particular notice of the disguised unicorn. Haggard, however, has dismissed these claims as a fit of rage from being fired by the king and replaced with the inept Schmendrick.

Mabruk's claims, however, are coming true when King Haggard, from up in his high tower, sees his fiery servent the Red Bull get driven into the sea, and all the unicorns he'd trapped there long ago immediately escape.

The world's supply of unicorns is great in number, and they proceed to trample along the castle to their homes back in the forests. All this is too much for the decaying castle to take and it begins to collapse. King Haggard's insanity however, overshadows any concern he should have about this as he looks down at the Unicorn. "The last! I knew you were the last!" He shouts as the tower he stands on crumbles under him and he falls into the sea, laughing.
