An unusually poignant death, where the elderly Ynyr visits Lyssa, the Widow of the Web for the last time, to beg her to tell him the location of the Black Fortress, which is critical to the Main Quest of the film.
It is apparent though, that the two have a romantic past that ended badly.
In fact, this is something of an understatement, as Ynyr learns that after he left her, she gave birth to their son, whom she promptly killed as she could not kill the father.
As punishment for this sin, she became "The Widow of the Web", and is doomed to age alone with only a giant spider and the occasional doomed adventurer for company.

Bumping into an old flame can often be socially awkward, but in this case it is fatal
Ynyr is a crafty old rogue though, and realises that flattery will get him what he wants (presumably the same stratagem he used to get her in the sack in the first place). He tells her that he forgives her, and as proof, he still sees her as she was when they were younger - not a hideous old crone, but a beautiful maiden.

Lissa has really let the dusting go since she turned seventy.
Lyssa is moved, and reveals to him the location of the Black Fortress. However, there is a catch, now that he is in the web he can never leave.
Ynyr doesn't fancy spending the rest of his life with a psychopathic ex-girlfriend so uses more charm to get her to smash her hourglass. The sand contained within will protect him from the spider, but it is with a certain amount of bitter relish that she tells him that both their lives will only last for as long as he can hold it.
He rushes back barely in time to deliver his vital message to Prince Colwyn and the rest of the adventurers but try as might, he cannot grasp the sand tightly enough to stop it escaping from his grasp.

Ynyr is a bit of a drama queen, and instead of just telling the adventurers the information he bears, he makes a point of clambering onto a rock and declaiming it loudly, in a thespian like performance, before melodramatically falling to the ground and dying.
Lyssa Widow of the Web: These are the sands of my life. Accept them and the spider will have no power to harm you. But your own life runs out with the sand.
Ynyr: But what about your life?
Lyssa Widow of the Web: I give it to the girl who bears my name.
what about magic as a category?
Agreed, thanks. I've added Lover and Self-Sacrifice too.
