Mike, the sound man for Carl Denham's film crew, is the first casualty of the expedition on Skull Island. In the ruined native village, the group encounters a lone feral child, and Denham's efforts to give the girl a candy bar turns out to be disastrous for the group. Mike, standing alongside Ann Darrow (both of them shot from the shoulders up), suddenly jerks forward and makes a peculiar expression. This catches Ann's attention, and she turns to see the front half of a spear sticking out of Mike's chest: he's just been impaled by a spear flung into him from behind.

Mike sinks to his knees, but does not fall over and die just yet. Ann screams, and she is answered by the roar of Kong, prompting the natives to decide that the blonde white woman would make an excellent sacrifice to their gorilla deity. As the natives swarm out of their hiding places and attack the group, Mike finally expires, flopping over onto his side with the spear still through him. Aside from one expendable crew member, the rest of the group is rescued by the timely arrival of Captain Englehorn. Back on the Venture later, a distraught Denham reveals his intention to finish the film and donate the proceeds to Mike's wife and kids.

You could say that this is a spear-ious injury for Mike

I felt really bad for this guy, even though he didn't have much to do with the story.
