Herb, Carl Denham's cameraman, is one of the men who accompany him and Jack Driscoll on the mission to rescue Ann Darrow. Herb is a somewhat older fellow with a bad leg, but despite this, he can really run when he has to. Climbing is another matter, though.
Herb manages to, against all odds, survive the brontosaur stampede instigated by a pack of ravaging venatosaurs (raptor-like dinosaurs) without being stepped on or crushed when Bruce Baxter's wild gunfire causes a dinosaur pileup. But when it comes time for the surviving party members to escape from the venatosaurs up a steep hillside, Herb lags seriously behind and calls for Denham to help him as the predators close in.
But when Denham, who has the movie camera reaches his cameraman, Herb suddenly changes his mind, putting the film equipment first as he tries to make him take the camera tripod first.

Understandably, Denham yells for him to forget the tripod, but Herb insists, yelling for Denham to take it and leave him behind. Denham refuses to abandon Herb, but a venatosaur makes up their minds for them by grabbing Herb's bad leg and dragging him off down the hillside where he is devoured by the dinosaurs (offscreen).

Like Mike the sound man, Denham vows to donate the proceeds of his doomed film to Herb's family.
If he was devoured off screen, doesn't that mean off scren killer
Yeah I think it does, unless we spring for a simple Offscreen, considering we see the dinosaur.
