Quint is the bawdy, salty sea dog that the business people of Amity Island hire to rid them of the shark problem, which is having a detrimental effect on their businesses.
Out in the middle of the ocean, Quint, Hooper and Brody are having a hell of a time trying to catch this shark, which has bashed the boat so that it is slowly sinking and caused salt water to flood the engine.
The boat is half sunk when Quint sees the familiar dorsal fin heading straight for it. The shark emerges from the water and lands on the back of the boat (called the Orca) and flaps around biting. The sheer weight of this monster on the back of the Orca tilts the boat precariously and Quint slips on the wet boards and slides towards the waiting jaws.

The prosthetic shark tries to mate with the Orca
He manages to fight off the gaping maw for a moment, but all too quickly his legs end up in the shark's mouth, which bites down hard causing Quint to cough blood. One final bite ends his life and the shark drifts off into the sea, with Quint's corpse in its mouth.

This is the Quint-essential way to die in a shark film
I found this kill very scary, since I saw the film when I was 7. The only thing I didn't agree with was the rubber shark, as it was hard not to notice the fakess. Still I enjoyed the movie, and the final victim's dead was the best one.
Well this made me cringe in the cinema back in 1975, a little over the top for an “A” certificate here in the UK, today the DVD is rated 12 by the BBFC, but even 12 is too low a rating I think a 15 certificate should be in order its not a pleasant scene at all the sound of him hollowing yelling and kicking “Bruce, the shark” is not cool.
No matter I still enjoy this film no matter how many times I’ve seen it nor how many times I see poor ole Quint die.
It's actually a 'PG' in the UK. The DVD is upgraded because the documentary uses the f-word.
I actually LIKE the fake looking shark! It makes it look more monstrous IMO!
My main problem is that it names Quint as a (Minor) character. He could be argued to be the second most principle driving character in the story! Classic film, classic death.
He should listen to Brody.
I kind of felt sorry for Quint, but then again, he agreed to hunt the shark.
His death in the film is different to the book. In the book it's actually more his fault, because he was harpooning the shark, and his leg got stuck in the rope, and the shark dragged him under.
