Sometimes villains are able to turn a handicap into an advantage. Such is the case with Zigesfeld, Augustus Steranko's top henchman, who loses his hand in the opening moments of the film, and replaces it with a bionic one, which he keeps covered with a black leather glove.

Michael Corben has just completed the rescue of his French class from being dipped into molten gold in Steranko's foundry by using liquid nitrogen (in a suspiciously gaseous form) to freeze the surface of the gold, when Zigesfeld lowers himself down onto the scene using a chain attached to a harness he's wearing.

After Michael assures everyone that he'll handle the metal-handed henchman and sends them on their way, he and Zigesfeld proceed to have a rather poorly choreographed fight scene on top of the vat of gold. Zigesfeld particularly eager for payback after an earlier remark the upstart made about him having rabies.

"Hey," cries Michael, pointing down at something, "your dick's on fire!" Amazingly, Zigesfeld falls for this and looks down, whereupon Michael cries "Made ya look!" and slugs him in the face a couple of times, which only serves to piss Zigesfeld off.

Zigesfeld responds to this by holding up his right hand, the one kept covered with the leather glove. The glove suddenly rips off (apparently of its own accord), exposing Zigesfeld's robotic hand we've been waiting the entire movie to see. Michael reacts to it by going "Shit!" and then attempts to reason with the killer: "Hey, I was just joking about the rabies!"

The two circle one another for a moment before he slashes at Michael with the robotic hand, then backhands him with it, knocking him flat on his back. He reels back his fist and throws a punch at Michael, who manages to roll out of the way just in time, and Zigesfeld's metal fist instead punches through the frozen surface of the gold. When he extracts the hand there's a huge glob of molten gold on it. He stares at it dumbly for some reason, allowing Michael to grab the chain that had previously been attached to Zigesfeld's harness.

He begins swinging it around as Zigesfeld regains his composure, then slings the chain at the villain. Zigesfeld blocks using his robotic hand, which is still drenched in molten gold. The chain and hand become fused together in a shower of sparks, and Zigesfeld tugs uselessly on it, causing the cage (which had held Michael's classmates) to jerk in the air above them. Some more punching between the two occurs, before the cage suddenly drops down towards them. Michael manages to dive out of the way; Zigesfeld doesn't and the cage lands on him and smashes him through the surface and into the molten gold, which for some inexplicable reason causes a huge explosion.

The only problem with this death is that if the chain that gets fused to Zigesfeld's hand is the same one he lowered himself down with, and is attached to the cage at the other end, then he should act as a counterweight and be lifted into the air as the cage fell, rather than simply standing there and having it land on him.

I take that means only the original title counts. Because I know some countries called it Teen Agent.

Yeah, "Teen Agent" is the film's alternate title used mainly in the UK for some reason.

One interesting aspect about this death I neglected to mention in the writeup, and which is probably unimportant anyway, is Zigesfeld's wardrobe for this fight scene: a maroon three-piece suit with leather shoulderpads and a turtleneck. This is unlike anything else he wears in the film, and my only conclusion is he was planning on attending Steranko's party after he finished with Micheal et al, and this rather flashy outfit is what he intended on wearing to it... had he made it.

Anyway, I'm glad this death is up. If Looks Could Kill is a favorite of mine, and Zigesfeld ranks among my top ten favorite movie henchmen. I just can't wait for Steranko himself to go up, as his demise is so ridiculously over-the-top. smiling smiley

Hi K.!

This movie is a fav. from me too. I am also like the femme fatale in it: Areola Canasta (Carole Davis). Do you wrote about her in near future??? I think her doings and finally her end is very ridiculous too... similarly of all the baddies in this flic!

Regards!

No, I haven't done Areola's death yet, but I should, seeing as how it's probably the silliest death in the entire film, rivalled only by Steranko's.

Yes youre right! The circumstances of her death are very ironic, but funny!!! What a body on her! The best: she initiate her comeuppance herself!
It's would be great if you can wrote about her!!!cool smiley

Yeah, she seems to be pretty much all anyone ever talks about with regards to this film, even in a thread intended for another character's death. :bigeye:
