Most of Voltan's minions have been defeated, and now all that remains is for Hawk to square up to his older brother for the film's showpiece event.

Voltan flanked by two hanging nuns

Voltan is wary of his brother's skill with the magical sword and so he has tied up Gort (the giant) and has put nooses around three nuns' necks for added insurance. Voltan then tells Hawk to drop his sword or he will kill the nuns and Gort. Defeated, Hawk complies. Voltan then allows Hawk a moment to pray to his god. Kneeling, Hawk clutches hold of the cross he has around his neck and uses it to reflect light into Voltan's face. This serves to irritate Voltan, and he asks Hawk to stop praying.

However, the cross has a more interesting purpose - hidden within it is a blade. Flicking the blade out and throwing the cross in one seamless movement, Hawk cuts the rope tying Gort, who proceeds to kill his captors (the final two of Voltan's minions).

why doesn't Voltan stab Hawk in the back while he is unarmed? Is this a display of morality??

In the meantime, Voltan lunges for Hawk, but is taken aback when Hawk's magical sword suddenly appears back in his hand. We then have to listen to a tedious bit of dialogue, before the fighting between the brothers commences (albeit in slow motion so you can see just how flimsy and blunt those blades really are). After a few parries, Voltan makes the most ridiculously over the top sword fighting stance known to modern man, and leaves his torso completely exposed. Hawk doesn't look this sort of gift horse in the mouth, and slams his blade into Voltan's stomach.

These stills are only marginally slower than the live action battle

Voltan collapses on the floor, but still has time to deliver the line "I will wait for you at the gates of hell" to Hawk. It sounds like a powerful line until you consider that Hawk has been talked about in saintly terms throughout the film, and so Voltan's wait will be a long and pointless one.

Voltan collapsing and delivering his infamous "gates of hell" speech

Finally, with all the heroes having departed the church, we see the black wizard appear in the church and take Voltan's corpse away, claiming that the dark forces still have need of him [paraphrased]. This line was obviously hastily written in on the off chance that a sequel was ever commissioned.
