Marlene Craven, is the realtor friend of Michael and Claire Bartel, who after completing a visit to their house, while talking on the phone to Claire, notices some wind chimes in the baby's room.

Marlene is suspicious of these wind chimes and leaves the house to go through her old realty listings at her office. She soon discovers that in the picture of Dr. and Mrs. Mott's home (Dr. Mott sexually abused Claire in her gynaecology appointment), that there are wind chimes on the porch. To further her research, she goes to the library and finds an article about the wife of the doctor who committed suicide to find that she and Peyton are one in the same.

Angry and betrayed, she starts to drive to the house but makes the mistake of calling Peyton to inform of her arrival. Peyton had earlier in the movie had set up a death trap for Claire in the backyard greenhouse so with Claire not around, Peyton decides to put it to use on another victim.

Marlene arrives at the house, demanding to see Claire and tell her the truth about the lying au pair. Peyton tells her she's in the greenhouse and when Marlene opens the door, the large poll flips up into the glass roof, shattering it, causing all the little bitty pieces to slice Marlene to bits.
