Not exactly the most exciting death scene in the movie, but a somewhat amusing one nonetheless. Sheriff Kelly and his deputy, Brent Frye, are en route to the Futterman residence when they happen upon Mrs. Deagle, fresh from getting shot out of the window of her house on her mechanical chair whatcha-ma-callit. Even as the Sheriff and his deputy are trying to process what they just saw, a Gremlin gets underneath their police cruiser and yanks out the brakes.
After witnessing a vicious attack on Dave Marrs, who "does Santa every year," Kelly decides to get the hell out of Dodge while the getting's good, and speeds off down the street, unaware that the brakes are out. Deputy Frye, having a bit of a freakout, prevents the Sheriff from concentrating on the road in front of him. Trying to get his panicky subordinate under control, Kelly doesn't notice the pickup truck pull out in front of them until it's too late. He hits the brakes, to no effect, and the cruiser smashes into the back of the pickup, then flips over and skids along the pavement until it comes to a stop against a parked car.
As a kicker to this, the pickup truck, sent careening out of control by the impact, proceeds to crash through the front window of All Slate Insurance, then explode, while the Gremlin who had cut the brakes cackles insanely.
I would say that I never thought of the pair as being dead, but I was the one who submitted the controversial Random Task review, so I can't talk.
This was definately an Ironic death. The sheriff and his deputy were teasing Billy relentlessly earlier and completely dismissed and ridiculed all his claims about the gremlin threat (despite being shown Gizmo, who he and his deputy teased as well).
My husband is 69 y.o. and interested in Scott Brady's last movie and circumstances about his death, and info would be appreciated ... thanks
Really the best information I know of is here --> [www.imdb.com]. Emphysema is all it says, you can find details for Gremlins there as well.
