Deputy Brent Frye here technically ought to be lumped in with the Sheriff since they both die in the same car crash, but Brent earns special mention for his hilarious deadpan reaction to the entire ordeal.

More than a little drunk (which is why Sheriff Kelly is driving - well, that and he's the Sheriff), Brent just stares out the window as a man in a Santa Claus outfit is mauled by dozens of Gremlins outside their cruiser. "Jesus, Frank, that's Dave Marrs," Brent says. "He does Santa every year."

Too shocked to do anything, neither officer moves a muscle to assist the poor man as he's viciously brutalized by the Gremlins. Finally Brent snaps out of his trance and delivers one of the best lines in the film: "Frank, I really think we should go now. Frank, Frank, why don't you start the car, 'cause I'd really like to go back to the station now. Frank, please."

Finally the Sheriff listens and they speed off, leaving poor Mr. Marrs to his fate, unaware that one of the Gremlins screwed around with their brakes while they were stopped...
